Will, SC, York, Samuel Hemphill, 1820 Case #23 File #955 SAMUEL HEMPHILL, deceased SARAH HEMPHILL, et. al., executors 1821 Page 1 of 7 ** PAGE BREAK ** Will, SC, York, Samuel Hemphill, 1820 South Carolina York District I, SAMUEL HEMPHILL Senior, in a weak and low state of health but in sound mind and memory, call to mind the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make this my last will and testament. 1ST I recommend my soul to God, who gave it, my body to be decently buried. 2ND I allow all my just debts to be paid. 3RD I will & allow my son ALEXANDER HEMPHILL to have a part of the tract of land I now live on. Beginning in a corner of my son WILLIAM’s land, a start line; from thence so as to leave out the spring we now use and the barn to MCSHEWS line all to the north of said line of my old tract containing sixty acres more or less. 4TH As to all the balance of my land I do allow & will the same to my son DAVID HEMPHILL, my wife to have her support off said land her life time. 5TH As to my daughter MARGRET HEMPHILL I do allow & will her to be paid fifty dollars. As to all my stock of horses, cows, sheep, hogs, farming utensils, household furniture & c. I allow to son DAVID by his paying the sum of three dollars to each of the rest of my children, viz: ELIZABETH [HEMPHILL] GRAHAM, MARTHA [HEMPHILL] PATTON, ROBERT HEMPHILL, SAMUEL HEMPHILL, and WILLIAM HEMPHILL. And I do hereby will, allow and appoint my beloved wife SARAH HEMPHILL and my son DAVID HEMPHILL executors of this my last will and testament. To all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. KNOW YE, that on the 1st day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one the last Will and Testament of SAMUEL HEMPHILL, late of this district, deceased, was proved in open court, and approved and allowed of before and by the said court, and the administration of all and singular the goods and chattels, rights and credits oft the said deceased withing this state, was thereupon granted, and committed by the said court, unto SARAH HEMPHILL, executrix, and DAVID HEMPHILL named executor in the said will, he being first duly sworn, well and faithfully to administer, and make a full and perfect inventory into of all and singular the said goods and chattels, rights and credits, and to exhibit the same inventory into the office of the clerk of the court of Ordinary aforesaid, in order to be recorded, on or before the 27th day of March next, and to render a true and just account, calculation and reckoning thereof, when thereunto required. These are to authorize and Empower you, or any three or four of you, whose names are here under written, to repair to all such parts and places within the state, as you shall be directed unto by SARAH HEMPHILL & DAVID HEMPHILL executors of the goods and chattels, rights and credits of SAMUEL HEMPHILL late of the said District deceased, wheresoever any of the said goods and chattels are or do remain within the sad parts and places, and which chubby show none to you by the said SARAH HEMPHILL & DAVID HEMPHILL. And they're to view an appraised all and every the said goods and chattels, being first duly sworn on the holy evangelist of almighty God, to make a true and perfect inventory and appraisement thereof, and to cause the same to be returned under your hands, or any three or four of you, under the said SARAH HEMPHILL & DAVID HEMPHILL on before the 10th day of November next.
