I, ROBERT BRATTON Sr, of York District state of South Carolina being old and frail but in perfect health of body and perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body, and knowing, that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors, nothing doubting, but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise, and dispose of the same following Manner and form. FIRST I give and bequeath to my beloved Son WILLIAM BRATTON $2. SECONDLY I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter EALSE [BRATTON] HEMPHILL $2. THIRDLY I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter ANN [BRATTON] SMIDAY $2. FOURTHLY I give and bequeath to my son-in-law WILLIAM ROBINSON $2. FIFTHLY I give and bequeath unto my daughter-in-law MARY WALLACE formerly MARY BRATTON $2. SIXTHLY I give and bequeath to my beloved son ROBERT BRATTON all and singularly the plantation or tract of land where on I now live with my negro man MAY. Also my wagon and two horses my whole stack stock of cattle and hogs, my two beds and furniture, together with all my household kitchen furniture and plantation tools. And lastly I do constitute, make & ordain my beloved son ROBERT BRATTON and my beloved and trusty friend JAMES SIMPSON my only and sole executor of this my last will and testament. And do hereby utterly disallow, revoke, and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, bequest and executive orders by me in any way before this named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 23rd day of August in the year of Our Lord 1814. Personally appeared before me SAMUEL GIVENS Esquire who being duly sworn as the Lord directs that he saw a Robert Bratton Sr., sign, seal, publish, pronounce, and declare the within to be and contain his last will and testament that he, the said ROBERT BRATTON Sr., was then of sound and disposing mind, and understanding to the best of the deponents knowledge and belief and that he, the said SAMUEL GIVENS, did sign his name as a witness there to at the request of the testator and in his presence and that ROBERT LOVE and DAVID SADLER together with him were subscribing witnesses at the same time. THESE ARE TO AUTHORIZE AND EMPOWER YOU, or any three or four of you, whose names are here under written, to repair to all such parts and places within this state, as you shall be directed onto by ROBERT BRATTON Jr., one of the named executor of the goods and chattels, rights and credits of ROBERT BRATTON Sr., deceased, wheresoever any of the said goods and chattels are or do remain within the said parts and places, and which shall be shown to you by the said ROBERT BRATTON and their view and praise all and every the goods and chattels, being first duly sworn on the holy evangelists of almighty God, to make a true and perfect inventory and appraisement thereof, and to cause the same to be returned under your hands, or any three or four of you, unto the said ROBERT BRATTON on or before the first day of February next. WITNESS BENJAMIN CHAMBERS Esquire ordinary of the set District the 17th day of December in the year of Our Lord 1815 and in the 40th year of American independence. To Messrs. DAVID SADLER, ROBERT LOVE, FRANCIS ERWIN, JAMES MARTIN, THOMAS GIBSON BENJAMIN CHAMBERS Memorandum sat on see 26th day of December in the year of Our Lord, 1815 personally appeared before me SAMUEL GIVEN one of the justices assigned keep the peace and for the said District DAVID SADLER, ROBERT LOVE, FRANCIS ERWIN being three of the appraisers appointed to appraise the goods and chattels of ROBERT BRATTON, late of York District, deceased, who being duly sworn, made oath that they would make a true appraisement of all and singular, the goods and chattels of the said ROBERT BRATTON deceased, as shall be reproduced by the executor of the estate of the deceased, and that they would return the same certified under their hands unto the said Executives honor before the first day of January next.
