THAT he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as herein stated to wit in Captain WILLIAM MCKENZIE Company in Colonel HILL's Regiment & in General SUMPTER's [sic, THOMAS SUMPTER's] Brigade. That deponent entered the service in the year 1781 months & day of the month of said year the deponent does not now recollect. That the deponent left the service in the month of May 1782 having served the space of 10 months That deponent resided in the County of Lincoln in the State of North Carolina when he entered the service, as an enlisted soldier called one of the State Troops of South Carolina. That deponent was at the battle of Eutaw [Springs], and Orangeburg and was engaged in the said battles. THAT deponent marched from what is now called York District South Carolina through the intervening Country to Eutaw Springs and Orangeburg. THAT deponent marched some of the time in company with the troops under General MARION. THAT deponent was acquainted with General GREEN [sic. NATHANAEL GREENE], deponent was also acquainted with Colonel WILLIAM WASHINGTON and Colonel HENRY LEE of the horse, deponent thinks Colonel LEE's name was HENRY, deponent was born in Stafford County in the Northern neck of Virginia on the 3rd day of March 1765. THAT deponent has no record of his age, there was a record but when deponent saw the said record last the same was in North Carolina, deponent has lived in South Carolina & Georgia since the revolutionary war, the most of the time in Georgia. THAT deponent received a discharge at a place called New Market from Major BLUFORD of Colonel HILL's Regiment. THAT said discharge has been lost for many years. THAT deponent has no means of proving his service. THAT deponent's name, may be found on record at Seat of Government and South Carolina. THAT deponent afterward entered the service in North Carolina for 3 months as a volunteer, in Captain WILSON's Company under General MCDOWELL. THAT said deponent marched from Lincoln County North Carolina in pursuit of the Cherokee Indians. THAT he served out the said tour, was discharged at a place called the Pleasant Gardens near the head of the Catawba River. THAT said deponent received a written discharge from Captain WILSON which said discharge has long since been lost or destroyed, deponent says that the said last mentioned service began in September or October 1782. He hereby relinquishes every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present, and declares. THAT his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any State, or (if any) only on that of the Agency of the State of South Carolina & North Carolina. THAT she is the widow of VALENTINE WEATHERS, she does not recall at the rank he held in the Army, your record will show that the said VALENTINE WEATHERS drew a pension in his lifetime and she further declares that she was married to the said VALENTINE WEATHERS in the year of Our Lord 1831, and that her said husband died on the 16th day of February 1852, that she was not married to him prior to the second day of January 1800, but at the time above stated. D. 1776 and that her said husband enlisted (time unknown), for the term (not known) and do not know for how long he did actual service in said war, and she believes that he was honorably discharged because he drew a pension, and she further states that she was married to the said VALENTINE WEATHERS in the year 1831, there is no public or private record of the marriage exists, that can be produced, and further states that she was married by one RICHARD LEVERETT, and acting justice of the peace and that her name before her said marriage was SARAH ROWLINS,. That her said husband died in Newton County Georgia on the 16th day of February A. D. 1852, and that she is now a widow. THAT she is the widow of VALENTINE WEATHERS who was a pensioner under the act of Congress and Drew at and after the rate of $80 per annum as revolutionary soldier. THAT said pension was paid him at the agency for paying pensions established at Savannah Georgia and that his residence was in Newton County Georgia during the time he drew pension. THAT she further declares that she was married to the said VALENTINE WEATHERS on the 10th as well as she believes day of April A. D. 1827. THAT her husband, the aforesaid VALENTINE WEATHERS, died on the 16th day of February A. D. 1852 and that she was married to him at the time above stated. She further swears that she was a widow at the passage of the act and is still a widow and that she has never before made application for pension except an application made a month or two since in which she took an affidavit before SHELLY DOWNS, a Justice of the Peace of Newton County, Georgia, and that she makes this application because she has been informed that she could not get a pension unless she made application before a court of record, and the other being an informal application made before a justice she says it may be disregarded except so far as to may serve to prove her marriage in Gwinnett County, Georgia, where she married. THAT she knows no private record, and knows of no person now living, present at her marriage but that she is illiterate and quite poor and has heard that too said application she refers to the say produced a witness subscribers that were present at her marriage but don't know as to the truth of this. That during this period her means of subsistence have been she has been: dependent on the inferior Court of said County for all support That she has not borne arms against the government government of the United States, or has not in any manner been engaged in or aided or abetted the rebellion therein, or in any manner enouraged the rebels, or manifested a sympathy with their cause. Applicant makes the following additional declaration: "I SARAH WEATHERS do solemnly swear or affirm in the presence of almighty God, that I will Hereafter Faithfully support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and the union of the states there under: that I will, in like manner, abide by and Faithfully support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing Rebellion with reference to the emancipation of slaves: so help me God." Applicant further states that she was last paid her pension on the 4th day of September A. D. 1860. That she still continues the widow of VALENTINE WEATHERS This application is made for the purpose of securing a restoration of her name to the pension rules, and of obtaining a new pension certificate, such as she may be entitled to under existing laws, reference being made to the evidence heretofore filed in the pension office to substantiate her original claim. That he enlisted in this county early in the spring of 1781 under Captain MCKENZIE, he thinks a recruiting officer, and further sayeth sometime in the year following, 1782, the aforesaid VALENTINE WEATHERS volunteered a three-month tour as he believes against the Cherokee Indians and believes he served the three months fully and discharged that the said VALENTINE WEATHERS removed from this County long since and has resided many years in the state of Georgia.
