Page 5 of 24 ** PAGE BREAK ** War Rev Pension, SAMUEL STALNAKER South Carolina Pursuant to an act of the general assembly passed the 16th of March, 1783, we, the commissioners of the treasury have this day delivered to Mr. SAMUEL STALNAKER this indented certificate for the sum of £18.1.2 Sterling for militia duty as private and for beeves for continental use in 1781, as per account audited. The said SAMUEL STALNAKER his executors, administrators, or assigns will be entitled to receive, from this office, the sum of £1.5.3 on demand for one years interest on the principal sum of £18.1.2 and the like interest annually. The said SAMUEL STALNAKER, his executors, administrators or assigns will be entitled also to receive, and shall be paid if demanded, the principal sum of £18.1.2 on the 4th of July 1787. And said SAMUEL STALNAKER his executors, administrators or assigns, may make any purchases at any public sale of confiscated property (except such as shall be ordered by the legislature for special purposes), and this indent shall be received as payment. For the true performance of the several payments in manner above mentioned, the public treasury is made liable, and the faith of the state is pledged by the aforesaid ACT. Given under our hands at the Treasury office in Charleston, the 4th day of July 1785. THAT early in the war he attached himself to a company of militia commanded by Captain BRIANT. THAT he served at the siege of Ninety Six under Colonel HAMMOND. THAT he served more than a year under the command of Captain BRIANT. THAT afterwards BRIANT was appointed to a command in the regular service and Captain WILLIAM CAIN took his place. THAT he marched to Augusta under the command of CAIN and served at the siege of that place. THAT he performed several tours of duty throughout the state under the command of Lieutenant HOWARD and under General PICKENS. THAT he was in several expeditions against the Cherokee Indians with Major BOWIE and TUTT, under the command of General PICKENS. THAT he thinks he was in the service of the state for nearly three years. THAT he is now old and infirm, being 82 years of age and is incapable of supporting himself by labor. THAT he is in indigent circumstances as the annexed schedule of his property will show. He therefore prays your honorable body to place him on the pension list or grant him such other relief as in your wisdom you may think meet. And as in Duty bound he will ever pray. He was with him in the siege, at Augusta, and Ninety Six, and that he verily believes to said SAMUEL STALNAKER was true and faithful in the service of his country. That her late husband to said SAMUEL STALNAKER was a soldier of the Revolution and a pensioner of this state and died the 7th of March last leaving your petitioner and a very destitute situation. She's there for praise that she may as the Widow of the said pensioner replaced on the pension role of the state and be allowed to receive such pension as is usually provided to widows of deceased pensioners.
