That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served as hereafter stated. Your declarant states: That he was born in Ireland in the year 1744 or 1745, has no record of his age. That he was living in the state of North Carolina and Mecklenburg County when called into service and that he has lived and is living in the same county and state ever since. That he was drafted in all the campaigns in which he served. That he never received a discharge from service. The Cherokee campaign was the first in which your declarant served. He was a drafted in the county and state aforesaid. RUTHERFORD was the General of the army, NEIL MORRISON was the captain of the company to which your declarant belonged. In no engagement. No Continental troops. The object of the campaign was to subdue the Indians. Was in service about 4 months. Has no documentary evidence of the fact. Second campaign. The object of the tour was to subdue the Tories. No Continental troops. Has no documentary evidence of the fact. ALEXANDER was the colonel of the regiment. Has no distinct recollection of the other officers. Engaged in no battle. Was in service about two weeks. The third campaign General SUMTER, Colonel HUGGINS and Colonel ERWIN were the officers of the army. Marched from the county and state aforesaid into South Carolina. Was at the Battle of the Hanging Rock. In service about 2 weeks. In the summer of 1780. The forth campaign in which your declarant served. SUMNER was a commander in chief of the army, DAVIE was the Colonel, the other officers he cannot recollect. Was in service about 3 months. The object of the tour was to harassed British Army of which Lord CORNWALLIS was commander in chief. Has no documentary evidence of the fact. The fifth campaign was called the Wilmington campaign. Your declarant was one of the number that went on to relieve the American Army that was under the command of RUTHERFORD. Major HARRIS was the commander of the regiment to which he belong. Was in service not less than six or seven weeks. This campaign took place in the fall of 1781. No Continental troops. Has no documentary evidence of the fact. While residing in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, he enlisted, date not stated, serve for 5 months as a private under Captain NEIL MORRISON and went on an expedition against the Cherokee Indians, again enlisted, date not given, served two weeks under Colonel GEORGE ALEXANDER and was out against the Tories. Enlisted in the summer of 1780, march to South Carolina, served under Colonel HUGGINS and ERWIN and was in the Battle of Hanging Rock, length of service 2 weeks. He also served 3 months and Colonel DAVIE’s North Carolina regiment, no dates of service given, and in the fall of 1781, served six or seven weeks under Major HARRIS in the North Carolina troops, specific dates not given. He was allowed a pension on his application, executed September 16th, 1832, while residing in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. There was no data as to his family. Very truly yours A.D. Marched from the county and State aforesaid into Roane County in the same state. No battle. In service 2 weeks. The Third campaign General SUMTER, Colonel HUGGINS, and Colonel ERWIN were the officers. Marched from County and state aforesaid into South Carolina. Was at the Battle of Hanging Rock. In service 2 weeks. With no Continental troops. Received no discharge. The fourth campaign General SUMNER, Colonel DAVIE were the officers, the other officers you were declarant cannot recollect. In service 3 months. The object of the campaign was to harass the British army of which Lord CORNWALLIS was commander in chief. With no Continental troops. The Fifth campaign was called the Wilmington campaign. Your declarant states that he was one of the number that went to relieve the Americans that were under the command of General RUTHERFORD, Major HARRIS, was the commander of the regiment to which your declarant belonged. Was in the service six weeks. Cannot recollect when he either entered or left the service, received no discharge. Your declarant states that in consequence of his mental infirmity he cannot recollect the minutiae of his Services. He cannot recollect the periods of the war when he either entered or left he never received a discharge from any of his officers. He refers to the affidavit of THOMAS DOWNS to prove his service of the first second and third campaigns. He knows of no other person but JOHN HODGE who can testify to any other of his services and his testimony cannot be had without subjecting your declarant to great inconvenience. I hereby relinquish has every claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.
