We THOMAS GRIER and ISAAC PRICE of the county of Mecklenburg to acknowledge
ourselves indebted to JOHN MCKNIT ALEXANDER chairman and his appointed
justices of the county of Mecklenburg and the sum of 400 pounds to be paid to
the said JOHN MCKNIT ALEXANDER and his associates in trust for the benefit of
ZENAS ALEXANDER minor of ZEBULON ALEXANDER deceased to be voided on condition
that THOMAS GRIER was appointed guardian of ZENAS ALEXANDER aforesaid does
well and faithfully render a just account of his guardianship and shall truly
pay or cause to be paid to the said orphan when he arrives at full age or to
such Guardian as may be chosen within that time all such sums of money as he
shall be liable for and generally comply with the act of the assembly in such
case made and provided. Given under our hands and seals this 27th day of July
1787.

We ROBERT IRWIN and SAMUEL MARTIN are held and firmly bound unto HEZEH
ALEXANDER, JOHN K. ALEXANDER, WILL SCOTT esq. Justices of the County Court of
pleas and quarter sessions for the county of Mecklenburg in the penal sum of
one hundred pounds currency to be paid by us to the said justices or their
survivors in office in trust for the benefit of ZENUS ALEXANDER, minor of
ZEBULON ALEXANDER deceased, but to be void on condition that ROBERT IRWIN who
is appointed guardian of said minor shall well and faithfully discharge his
duty as guardian aforesaid in several cases which by law in such cases
required to do.

This indenture, made the 27th day of July in the year of Our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and eighty seven and in the eleventh year of independence of the
said State, between JOHN MCKNIT ALEXANDER Esquire, chairman of the aforesaid
county of the one part, and ISAAC PRICE gunsmith of the other part, witnesses
that the said JOHN MCKNIT ALEXANDER Esquire chairman in behalf of himself and
the court of the county aforesaid doeth put, place and bind unto the said
ISAAC PRICE, ZENAS ALEXANDER son and orphan of ZEBULON ALEXANDER deceased with
the said ISAAC PRICE to live after the manner of an apprentice and servant
until said apprentice shall attain the age of 21 years, during which time the
said apprentice his master faithfully shall serve his lawful commands
everywhere gladly obey, he shall not at any time absent himself from his said
masters service without leave but in all things as a good and faithful servant
shall be towards his master and the said ISAAC PRICE does covenant promised
and agreed to and with the said JOHN MCKNIT ALEXANDER that he will teach and
instruct or cause to be taught and instructed the said ZENAS ALEXANDER the art
and mastery of the gunsmith's trade and also paid to him thirteen pounds in
money or tools and give him three months schooling each year the end of his
time and that he will constantly find and provide for the said apprentice
during the term aforesaid sufficient diet, washing, lodging and apparel
fitting for an apprentice and also other things necessary both in sickness and
in health.

In witness whereof the parties to these presents have interchangeably set
their hand and seal the day and year first written above.
