I EZEKIEL ALEXANDER of the county of Mecklenburg and state of North Carolina being of sound mind and perfect mind and memory (blessed be God) do this seventeenth day of September one [thousand] eight hundred thirty six make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say: First I give and bequeath to my wife NANCY ALEXANDER my house and necessary out buildings and a reasonable support of the farm also my girl GRACE and her offspring forever; and MARY and LINDA during my wife's natural life. I also allow my wife NANCY ALEXANDER the household and kitchen furniture also the stock of every description for the use of my wife NANCY ALEXANDER and my son RUFUS – and I give to my son RUFUS the plantation on on which I live and also my negro boy TUBIOUS and PIRTUS and female but for RUFUS ALEXANDER my son to pay to JOEL ALEXANDER my son three hundred dollars and to have three years to pay it in. And I also give to my son EZEKIEL W. ALEXANDER my negro boy WINSLOW and I also allow and give to my grandson THOMAS H. ALEXANDER one dollar and it is my desire that none of my black family be sold out of the bounds of Shugar Creek Congregation and the wagon I allow for the use of the farm. And I hereby make and ordain the worthy sons EZEKIEL W. ALEXANDER and RUFUS ALEXANDER executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I, the said EZEKIEL ALEXANDER, have to this, my last will and testament, set my hand and seal this seventeen of September 1836.
