This 5th day of July in the year of Our Lord 1781 I JOHN PAYNTER [POYNTER] of the county of Sussex in the Delaware state being weak of body but of sound and disposing mind, and memory, and calling to mind the mortality of all flesh, and that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make & ordain this my last will and testament in manner following: FIRST I order that all my just debts and funeral charges be satisfied and paid. ITEM I give and bequeath to my half-brother JOSEPH HAZZARD 30 Shillings. ITEM I give and bequeath to my half-brother ARTHUR HAZZARD my silver buckles. ITEM I give and bequeath to my half-sister COMFORT HAZZARD my gold sleeve buttons. ITEM I give and bequeath to my brother SAMUEL PAYNTER [POYNTER] my Bible. ITEM I give and bequeath to my brother RICHARD PAYNTER [POYNTER] my hat. ITEM I give and bequeath to my brother RICHARD PAYNTER all my flax. AND all the rest of my real and personal estate, after my just debts and legacies above given are paid, I order to be equally divided between my two brothers SAMUEL PAYNTER and RICHARD PAYNTER. Personally appeared before me PHILLIPS KOLLOCK register appointed for the probate of wills and granting letters of administration for the court of Sussex on Delaware, RICHARD LITTLE and ARTHUR HAZZARD two of the subscribing witnesses to the within will subscribing and being solemnly sworn on the holy evangelist of almighty God did severally depose and say that in their sight, presence, and hearing the testator, JOHN PAYNTER, did sign, seal, publish, pronounce, and declare the within instrument of writing to be his last will and testament. And that at the doing their of the said testator was of a sound and perfect disposing mind and memory and judgment to the best of their knowledge and belief and that they each of them together with MARGARET BRIAN subscribe the same as evidences have to request an in the presence of the testator.
