D. 1856 personally appeared before me, a magistrate within and for the district and state aforesaid, THOMAS BRIAN aged 59 years, a resident of Spartanburg District in the state of South Carolina, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical THOMAS BRIAN who was a private in the company commanded by Captain WILLIAM KINDRICK in the ______ regiment of South Carolina militia commanded by Colonel MEANS in the war with Great Britain, declared by the United States the 18th day of June, 1812, for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for 14 days and that he has heretofore made application for Bounty Land under the act of September 28th, 1850, and received a land warrant, No. _____ for 80 Acres, which he has since legally disposed of and cannot now return. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the ACT approved the third day of March, 1855. He also declares, that he has never applied for nor received, under this or any other act of Congress, and Bounty Land warrant except the one above mentioned. THOMAS BRIAN We, J. V. TRIMMIER and T. SWAIN aged 49 years and SAMUEL WALDROP aged 70 years residents of Polk County, North Carolina, well known to me to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being duly sworn declares in the relation to aforesaid case as follows: Being called upon to provide relation of husband and wife of aforesaid THOMAS BRIAN and NARCISSA BRIAN states that they were personally acquainted with the said THOMAS BRIAN and NARCISSA BRIAN for over 30 years before his death, was raised in his immediate neighborhood and know that during that time they lived together as husband and wife and was so treated and regarded by their neighbors that they raised a family of children and the said THOMAS BRIAN died at his late residence near the South Carolina in Spartanburg District South Carolina in the year 1871. And they have no interest in case and are not concern in its prosecution and not related to said applicant. J. B. SWAIN S. ABRAMS, Clerk Superior Court Page 15 of 21 ** PAGE BREAK ** War, 1812, Pension, THOMAS BRIAN, 8052 Declaration to obtain bounty land Under Act passed September 28th 1850 State of South Carolina Spartanburg District On the 8th day of May 1852 personally appeared before me, a notary public and magistrate ex-officio within and for the district and state aforesaid, THOMAS BRIAN aged 52 years a resident of Spartanburg District in the state of South Carolina who being duly sworn, according to law, declares: That he is the identical THOMAS BRIAN who was a private in the company commanded by Captain WILLIAM KINDRICK in the first Regiment of South Carolina militia commanded by Colonel HUGH MEANS in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812. That he volunteered at KINDRICK’s muster ground in York District South Carolina on or about the 17th day of September A. D. 1814 for the term of six months and continued in actual service in said war for upwards of five months and was honorably discharged at Charleston, South Carolina, on or about the 3rd day of March A. D. 1815. That for proof of his service he refers to the muster book of the said regiment. That he has no recollection of ever having received a written discharge. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which he may be entitled under the ACT granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States passed September 28th 1850. That he is not received or entitled to receive land Bounty under any act of Congress heretofore passed. ABRAMS, Clerk of the superior a court of record in and for the county and state aforesaid, NARCISSA BRIAN, aged 76 years, a resident of County of Spartanburg, state of South Carolina, who being duly sworn according to law declares: That she is the Widow of THOMAS BRIAN, who served the full 14 days in the military service of the United States in the War of 1812, and who was the identical THOMAS BRIAN, who volunteered in Captain CLEMENT’s company, Colonel MEAN's Regiment, South Carolina Brigade, at Lively's Old Field 1814, and was honorably discharged at Charleston 1815. That her said husband true a military Bounty Land warrant under act of Congress March 3rd 1855, and refers the department for evidence there on file in support of her claim; That she was married under the name of NARCISSA CAMP to said THOMAS BRIAN on the 25th day of October, A. D. 1819, by REV. JOHN BLACKWELL, at her mother's house in South Carolina, there being no legal barrier to such marriage; That her said husband died at his residence in South Carolina on the first day of February, 1871 and; That she has not remarried since his death; That she is not in receipt of a pension under any previous act; That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension rules of the United States, under the provision of the ACT approved March 1878 and hereby constitutes and a point, with full power of substitution and revocation, Smith and Beck of Washington DC, her true and lawful attorneys to prosecute her claim, and obtain the pension certificate that may be issued; That her post office is at Sandy Plains, County of Polk, State of North Carolina; That her domicile or place of Abode is Spartanburg County South Carolina near the North Carolina line.
