BRYANT FAMILY JAMES H. BRYANT was the son of ROWLAND and MARY ROSA HUNT (daughter of WILLIAM HUNT) BRYANT and the grandson of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH ROWLAND FEARRINGTON (FARRINGTON) BRYANT. In the 1850 census, JAMES and the children are listed as born in NC and MARY is listed as born in VA. Some sources state JAMES was 1st married to SARAH ANDREWS, but I have not found this to be true at this time. In the 1830 census, JAMES H. BRYANT and his wife have children listed. One son is age 5-9 which cannot be accounted for in the 1840 (Fishing Creek Twsp.) and 1850 (Epping Forest Twsp.) census and all the others can be accounted for in the 1850 census. In the 1850 census they have the following children: MARY A. E., JOHN H., REBECCA, VIRGINIA R. and LOUSIA. in other documents MARY's middle initials are A. E. or E. J.; JOHN‘s middle initials are B. or H.; and REBECCA's middle initials are R. R. or T. and is sometimes called "BECKIE"; Virginia has the middle initial T. and is sometimes called "JINNIE" and LOUSIA has the middle initial C. and is sometimes called LOU. JAMES was born about 1793. in the 1860, census he is living in Tabbs Creek Twsp. He is not listed in the 1880 census. MARY, his wife was born about 1795 and is listed last in the 1860 census at age 64. MARY A. E. BRYANT was born about 1824 and died after the 1910 census is taken on May 5. 1910 in Kittrell Twsp. of Vance Co., NC but before January 12, 1920 when the 1920 census was taken. ELIZABETH CAMP was the widow of WILLIAM CAMP of Wake Co. and the daughter of ISAAC HUNTER, JR. of the famous "Isaac Hunter's Tavern" of Raleigh, Wake Co., NC. John and Alice lived in Kittrell (Epping Forest Twsp.) In the 1860 and 1870 in the census, In 1860, JOHN is listed as a Farmer and in 1870 he is listed as a Physician. They moved to the Holly Springs area (Buckhorn Twsp.) of Wake Co. by the 1880 census, when he is listed as a Druggist. JOHN died after May 4, 1881 and before December 21, 1885. ALICE died after December 21, 1885 and before the 1900 census. They did not have children listed in any census. I am still researching to determine if he served during the War Between the States because he would have been the age to serve. Page 2 of 5 ** PAGE BREAK ** Library, NC, Granville, Vance County Heritage REBECCA was born about 1832 and she married DANIEL B. STONE, son of DANIEL and MARY ANN FLETCHER HICKS STONE. DANIEL was a private in Co. G, 30 Regiment, NC Troops. He enlisted at age 20 on September 20, 1861 in Granville County, NC. He also served in Co. E, 23 Reg, N. C. Troops (13th Reg, NC Volunteers) and 2nd Company D, 12th Regiment, NC Troops (2nd Reg, NC Volunteers). l have not located the marriage record for REBECCA and DANIEL but I think it occurred between 1868 and 1869 (probably in Granville Co.) based on the age of their first child. In the 1870 census they have a daughter, MOLLY age 1. In the 1880 census they do not have any children listed with them. In the 1900 census REBECCA reported having 2 children born and 0 living. I do not know the sex or name of the second child. REBECCA and Daniel are both listed last in the 1910 census in Kittrell Twsp. VIRGINIA is born about 1835 and she married BENNETT BREEDLOVE, son of EMANUEL and ELEANOR "ELLEN" CLARKE BREEDLOVE on November 13, 1872 in Granville Co. BENNETT was a Private in Co. In the 1920 census, JAMES is a widower and living with his daughter, VIRGINIA A. age 12 in the house of his Great-Aunt, LOUISA C. BRYANT in Watkins Twsp. I have not found any other information on CALLIE I. and CLARINE I. BRYANT. JAMES stated on a WW I draft registration card that he was born June 24, 1875 and his closest relative is VIRGINIA BREEDLOVE (his daughter). In the 1930 census, JAMES is a lodger and living with LUTHER and EBBIE GRISSOM in the Kittrell Twsp. VIRGINIA A. married JESSE CRITCHER in Vance Co., NC. EUNICE married SAMUEL J. MCCURDY. BENNETT and VIRGINIA also had a daughter, KATE GLENNORA that married BINGHAM CLEMENTS. LOUISA was born about 1838 and died after a deed was registered in Vance Co., NC on April 12, 1920. She is listed in Watkins Twsp. (which was Kittrell Twsp. in earlier census) in the 1920 census. She never married and lived with her sister, MARY in the home of their great-grandparents, WILLIAM and ELIZABETH ROWLAND FEARRINGTON BRYANT where she died. The house was standing in the early 1930's and people in the Watkins Community remembered it had a spiral stairway against a wall and books, papers and household items were left in the house after Lou died. In the early 1940's only the chimney was left standing and now there is nothing remaining of the house. Information about this house is recorded by Miss EDWIN “Eddie" SUE GOREE of Texas in “A Family Mosaic: Fragmentary Sketches of Our Forebears in America" compiled in 1931 and published in 1961 by J. (JONATHAN) D. GOREE. Page 3 of 5 ** PAGE BREAK ** Library, NC, Granville, Vance County Heritage Submitted by: Betty J. King; Researcher; Betty J. King and Mark A, Pace. Wallace G.
